Whilst Siologen was
passing back through the UK in July 2006 we hit up a few places together. One such being Bournemouth
where we went to chase up a few leads, when they all turned out to be duff we had time
to kill and so purchased an A-Z and set out culvert hunting. Bournemouth didn't offer up much,
other than this on the upper stretches of the River Bourne.
Only a quarter mile in length it has some interesting features, such as the tall narrow
floating buttressed section that runs under the rail line. It goes from a brick arch, to
concrete box, back to brick, RCP, then concrete lined arch, terminating in several tiny pipes.
Silo trecked a way up the larger of the terminating RCPs but returned with the innevitable
news that it was a shrinker! The Bourne is a short old quirky culvert, but for it's lack of length
it was a lot of fun to explore, if you're local it's worth a look see, shame we made a four hour
round trip to find that out.
