We under estimated the time it would take to get through Park Drive. We had a few hours before we
were due at the airport to check in for our flight back to the UK and so we really wanted to get to see
what is in my opinion Toronto's best storm drain. At six or more kilometres in length it is a beastie,
and it's no small fry on the height scale either. The drain follows the course of a creek and carries
storm water along a massive change in topography into the Don Valley. In order to drop the drain along its
course are several waterfalls of varying shapes and construction, all have catwalks and ladders to allow
maintenance staff to traverse the deep plunge pools located at the bottom of each fall. The plunge pools
have churn blocks located around their central point, so best not to be fooled that they are located on their
edges, as I was, or you wil see yourself navel deep in cruddy water. Nobody likes waders full to bursting
and denim chaffed thighs.
Park Drive is a very cool drain and I wish we'd have allotted more time to spend exploring and photographing
it. When we exited via its huge grated outfall we had less than an hour to find our way back home, get our stuff
together and get to the airport, we really did not do Park Drive the justice it deserves, check out Kowalski's
pages from the external links section below.
