HOME UNDERGROUND EXCESS

Stairway to Paradise

A culverted tributary of the Chedoke Creek, Hamilton, Ontario, another from our Toronto trip of autumn 2006. Varying from concrete box sections to RCP its namesake stairways are impressive and given the change in topography which made them necessary the water flow in the culvert gets along some. Yellow/golden flecks in the concrete make for some great torch play.

The upstream entrance grille is a monster and as you're not able to exit from there we opted to pop a cover and surprise the local golfing middle class. Walking upstream from the infall grille, you eventually reach the plunge pool of Chedoke falls drain outfall. The drain itself is not noteably interesting by all accounts, but the falls, they're no Niagara but beautiful non the less.
